26th June UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

The UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture takes place every year on June 26th. This year, Spirasi is holding an event to mark the day in the Hugh Lane Gallery.

This year’s theme is ‘Support life after Torture’ which is key to Spirasi’s mission as the only specialised center for the rehabilitation of survivors of torture and severe trauma in Ireland.

Spirasi, with survivors of torture, has collaborated with ‘Change of Address’ collective to create a special piece of work called ‘Strong Song’. The event will see Strong Song, performed by survivors of torture and others which highlights the suffering experienced by victims of torture but also celebrates their recovery and continued life and hope after torture.

Through this event Spirasi wishes to highlight the need for continued support for life after torture – including protection for victims and State funding for rehabilitation services.
