John O'Donoghue - Psychotherapist
Short Bio
My name is John O’Donoghue. I am from Phibsborough. I work as a psychotherapist for Spirasi for the past 5 years. I have worked in the field of addiction and homelessness. I have also worked in within the probation services sector.

Fun Fact
I was a table tennis champion in my youth.

What attracted you to your role at Spirasi?
I joined Spirasi because they work in the field of human rights and their thorough work in rehabilitating survivors of torture. It also allowed me the opportunity to improve my practice in working with survivors of trauma.

What are the challenges and rewards of your job?
Some of the challenges of my job are listening to people who are apart from or have lost their loved ones. Also the stories of trauma can be a challenge. However, the reward of the work is to see how resilient survivors can be, how they work hard to recover from their traumatic experiences, and how they regain a normal life at the end of it. This is inspirational and truly rewarding for me.
